Label free marking of wood products and packaging with the mobile REINER® marking devices

Wood is one of the most diverse and popular materials ever. The raw material is used in many industries, often as a packaging material. In their homes, many people value wood due to its constructional properties. They may also prefer it to other materials such as plastics and metal for aesthetic reasons. From an ecological point of view, it is sensible and sustainable to use the regrowing material as well.

Anyone working with wood needs to observe a few things, however: there are strict international provisions on marking of wood products, such as the EC and IPPC marks. Not least due to the increasing awareness for the subject of sustainability, trackability of wood products is becoming more and more important. Information on the manufacturer and origin must be reliably applied to the material.

REINER®'s handheld inkjet jetStamp 1025, jetStamp® graphic 970 and REINER® 940 inkjet printers permit flexible marking even on wood surfaces. Profit from our industry know how in product labelling by relying on marking without labels with the REINER® handheld printers when "branding" wood, marking wood, labelling wood.

Mobile marking technology in the wood industry

Printing on tree trunks: a sensible manner of marking?

It is a common practice to mark tree trunks using spray paint cans. Options for marking with spray paint are limited, however, and only a certain amount of information can be placed on a trunk. This may cause the wrong trees to be loaded. The mobile REINER® marking devices provide a solution. Our handheld printers let you mark logs with barcodes or serial numbers, as well as the cutting date. The marking on each trunk can be individually and quickly customised to prevent confusion.
The often detrimental working conditions in the wood industry are not an issue for the robust jetStamp® printers jetStamp® 1025, jetStamp® graphic 970 and REINER® 940. Developed for mobile application in any working environment, they offer dust-protected print heads, protect the ink from drying out and boast long battery lives.

Trackability: How does expensive wood furniture stay clearly identifiable?

Can the mark for the international standard ISPM 15 be printed as well?

Wood is a diverse material that is often used as a packaging material. The Europool pallets, colloquially referred to as Euro pallets, are a popular example for use in this area. These standardised wooden pallets have become a staple in international trade as they greatly facilitate transport of large product quantities. However, they also pose a risk when the wooden frames are carried back and forth between countries. Pests may settle in the wood and be imported with the actual product without being noticed, with potentially severe consequences for the affected ecosystem.

Avoiding this is in the interest of all countries. The international plant protection convention, in short IPPC, was passed to minimise the risk. This international convention issues binding specifications for its members to protect plants from pests. The ISPM 15 provisions stipulate phytosanitary measures, i.e. measures "concerning the health of plants". Before any packaging may be used for international trade in compliance with the IPPC, it must be subjected to heat treatment or to specific chemical procedures. This makes sure that no live pests remain in the IPPC pallet.

ISPM 15 pallets and boxes must be marked accordingly, with the IPPC sign applied well visible on both sides. The mobile REINER® handheld inkjet printers are outstanding for easy marking of the IPPC pallet. Battery operated and easy to handle, they can flexibly label pallets. There is no need for an IPPC stamp, ISPM stamp or stencil. Just like any other marking, the IPPC mark can be created in the enclosed software or delivered by REINER® along with the stamp. If you meet the IPPC prerequisites, our handheld printers are clearly the optimal way for marking wooden pallets with IPPC. The CE mark, confirming that a product meets the minimum requirements of the European directives, must be placed on wood products as well. CE marking of wood is also very simple and efficient with the mobile REINER® printers.

Can I use REINER® marking devices for marking wood in any working environment?

The industrial marking systems of REINER® were specifically developed for on site application. Products can be marked virtually anywhere, even in carpentry shops and sawmills. The printer needs no power connection while printing, and the print heads of the handheld printers are protected well. The very durable battery permits use of the marking devices wherever they are needed. Their economic use of ink makes mobile inkjet printers by REINER® the ideal tool for efficient product marking.
Mark wooden products of any kind quickly and easily with our marking system. Direct printing of codes, serial numbers, logos, and other data is reliable and as flexible as the circumstances require. Dispense with labels for marking. Wood products in particular are often stored outdoors. Labels on wood are accordingly quickly damaged by moisture, dirt or abrasion. The special REINER® MP3 ink dries particularly quickly and adheres outstandingly on many different surfaces. Unreliable marking is a thing of the past.

Many different imprints can be stored on the mobile REINER® inkjet printer to mark products. They can be replaced at any time. The enclosed Windows printer driver and the enclosed software and code generators ensure a smooth start into label free marking of wood products. Integration into digital goods management is easy based on integrated 1D/2D code generators and the network and USB interfaces of our mobile printers.
