Printing on tree trunks: a sensible manner of marking?
It is a common practice to mark tree trunks using spray paint cans. Options for marking with spray paint are limited, however, and only a certain amount of information can be placed on a trunk. This may cause the wrong trees to be loaded. The mobile REINER® marking devices provide a solution. Our handheld printers let you mark logs with barcodes or serial numbers, as well as the cutting date. The marking on each trunk can be individually and quickly customised to prevent confusion.

Trackability: How does expensive wood furniture stay clearly identifiable?
High quality wooden furniture, wooden floors and tiles can be quite expensive. The customer must be able to easily track where the product comes from. Tracking not only prevents counterfeit deliveries but also caters to the increasingly important ecological background of wood products. Each product should clearly reflect its origins and the path it has travelled since.
The REINER jetStamp® models can print directly onto wood products. The handy printers permit application of codes and serial numbers in any location, including the inner corners of a cabinet. This ensures that the customer receives the right product and always permits tracking.
A QR code can guide the customer to the corresponding service websites when scanned. Directly placing such a code imprint in discrete locations is an elegant way to store setup instructions and simplify ordering of spare parts and accessories. Often, labels or classical operating instructions are still used, even though they have the clear disadvantage of being removed or lost. A direct logo imprint is also the best option for branding of wood.

Can the mark for the international standard ISPM 15 be printed as well?
Wood is a diverse material that is often used as a packaging material. The Europool pallets, colloquially referred to as Euro pallets, are a popular example for use in this area. These standardised wooden pallets have become a staple in international trade as they greatly facilitate transport of large product quantities. However, they also pose a risk when the wooden frames are carried back and forth between countries. Pests may settle in the wood and be imported with the actual product without being noticed, with potentially severe consequences for the affected ecosystem.
Avoiding this is in the interest of all countries. The international plant protection convention, in short IPPC, was passed to minimise the risk. This international convention issues binding specifications for its members to protect plants from pests. The ISPM 15 provisions stipulate phytosanitary measures, i.e. measures "concerning the health of plants". Before any packaging may be used for international trade in compliance with the IPPC, it must be subjected to heat treatment or to specific chemical procedures. This makes sure that no live pests remain in the IPPC pallet.
ISPM 15 pallets and boxes must be marked accordingly, with the IPPC sign applied well visible on both sides. The mobile REINER® handheld inkjet printers are outstanding for easy marking of the IPPC pallet. Battery operated and easy to handle, they can flexibly label pallets.
